The CHOICE programme is helping families and children to manage their diabetes more effectively. Children and young people attend the CHOICE programme over a four week period, with each session lasting three hours. The aim of the programme is to give children, young people and their families or carers, the skills and knowledge they need to manage their diabetes and to reduce the impact of the condition on daily activities and lifestyle. The CHOICE programme is available in all 5 Trusts in Northern Ireland and is delivered by a diabetes specialist nurse and a dietician.
All children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes will be offered the Choice Programme within 6 months of diagnosis and annual refresher training.
There are places available on future CHOICE programmes which are open to children and young people with diabetes aged up to 19 years and their parents or carers. For further information please speak to your Diabetes team.
This website has been designed for children, young people and their families who have completed the CHOICE structured education group program. Other children, young people and their families may find the website helpful but should contact their diabetes team if they have any concerns about their diabetes management
